Kirk Ellingham

As an artist using photography as my medium and the documentary method as my foundation I try to interpret my world and the feelings it inspires within me through photographic images.
I am dealing with intimate issues concerning fragmentation and the bonds of family.
Also in my foreign work I am looking for changes in the environment of peoples lives and trying to also expose the contradictions we are faced with daily from the media in the news saturated world of today.
Hopefully without cliché’s, pretension and naivety I am dealing with the loves, hopes, desires, passions and sadness we all face as human beings visualised as my own experience's of places, people and journeys; produced as a pure a photographic document I can ever aspire to produce.

I decided to change career in 2003 and worked towards gaining a degree in Documentary Photography from Newport School of Art, Media and Design, as well as a rewarding six month exchange at FAMU in Prague. I Graduated in June 2006. Since then it has been an uphill struggle which is now yielding success; I travelled to Brazil in 2006 to work on some projects, there I won the Mostra-Caxiola award in Curitiba and had my work exhibited in the International ‘Photography Festival in Port Alegre’.
This year my work was chosen as a finalist in the ITS#TALENT 7 photography award and exhibited in Trieste as well as being highly commended by photographer ‘Sarah Moon’ and ‘Denis Curti’ director of Contrasto.
